Simon previously worked with business development at a temporary staffing and recruitment company, where the focus was on the Life Science sector and the deregulation of the Swedish pharmacy market. Earlier in his career, Simon has covered the areas of biotechnology and environmental research, B2C sales and teaching. Simon started at Bioglan AB on August 2^nd.

MA holder for Scandinavia

The assets of Bioglan AB were as of September 1^st 2009 acquired by the Spanish family-owned group Reig Jofré. The final part of the deal was the transfer of the market authorisation (MA) of nine products for the Scandinavian market. This part of the deal was due March 1^st 2010.

All nine product will in the future be supplied by Bioglan AB on the Scandinavian market.

Three of the products, Micanol, Crystacide and LHP, are developed and manufactured by Bioglan AB (the product Crystacide is in Sweden known under the trademark Microcid).

The remaining products are known under the trademarks Amosyt, Capsina, Hibitane, Metosyn, Synalar and Tenutex. Some of these products are also manufactured by Bioglan AB today.

Bioglan at BioSquare Geneva 2010

The main objective for taking part of BioSquare is to make our contract development and manufacturing organisation available to other organisations, which require this type of service. We offer all services you require within the field of semi-solids and liquids.

New products are continuously developed within the Reig Jofré Group and we also look for partners for these products all over the world. Two products registered as medical device are within short offered for out-licensing.

The product, presently called Zalve, is designed to facilitate healing and prevent the growth of microorganisms in small wounds. This product can be used as a first aid cream and is an alternative treatment to topical antibiotics.
The product, presently called Ameliorin, is a microemulsion which prevents and alleviates perennial rhinitis allergy where symptoms are caused by pollen, dust mite, animal fur and other allergens by forming a protective barrier in the nasal cavity.

Bioglan in Sweden is sold to Reig Jofré in Spain

Bioglan AB is a contract development and manufacturing organisation founded 1984 in Malmö, Sweden. Bioglan is specialised in development and manufacture of topical pharmaceutical products. Bioglan was until end of August a subsidiary of Midelfart Sonesson, whose focus is on food supplements, health, natural remedies, common cold and hygiene. Bioglan’s focus has and will continue to be pharmaceuticals and medical device registered products. Both Midelfart Sonesson and Bioglan are in agreement this is a very good solution to ensure the best potential for continued growth.

The acquisition of the Bioglan assets was made by the family-owned Reig Jofré Group founded 1929 in Barcelona, Spain. RJ Group is one of the largest Spanish developer, and manufacturer, of pharmaceuticals for third parties, and has taken a strategic decision to grow internationally. RJ Group is highly specialised in injectable and oral antibiotics, as well as sterile freeze drying. RJ Group has historically developed, manufactured and marketed a portfolio of dermatological products that will expand with the acquisition of Bioglan.

Bioglan AB has 50 employees and they are all offered continued employment as part of RJ Group. RJ Group will, with this transaction, employ close to 600 people globally. In 2009, the annual group turnover is expected to approach 100M€.

Bioglan AB is a CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation) and provides support for pharmaceutical and life science companies in all aspects of development and manufacture of semi-solids and liquids, mainly used for topical applications. Bioglan collaborates with companies of all sizes, from the smallest start-up companies to the leading pharmaceutical houses within topical applications mainly in dermatology and is acting on an international market. The services include formulation & analytical development, small scale manufacture and supply for clinical trials, commercial manufacture, registration support, quality control and quality assurance.
